General Information

 Messages to Students

In case of emergencies, messages for students are left with the school secretary, who will see that they are delivered. Classroom instruction is not interrupted. Parent/Guests do not go directly to the classrooms without first obtaining permission from the school office.

School Hours

School begins at 8:00 am with prayer, a salute to the American flag and announcements for the day.  After 8:00 am a student is considered late.  Before 7:00 am the school cannot be responsible for the supervision of the child.  School ends at 2:30.

The homeroom teachers will bring the students outside for dismissal.  No students will be dismissed between 2:00 PM and 2:30 PM.  Teachers and school personnel are responsible for the enforcement of this requirement.  After 2:45 PM all children left at school will be sent to After School Care at the parents’ expense. After Care Registration forms are sent to the parents in the beginning of the year..

Drop-Off

Students will be dropped off between 7:45am - 8:00am each morning in front of the church where their teachers will be waiting for them.  Students who arrive after 8:00am will be required to go to the  with their parents to obtain a tardy pass. Please note that parents will be charged a $5.00 tardy fee after the fourth tardy in any one  quarter. (Payable at time of offense.)  Every additional tardy after the fourth will also be charged at $5.00 per tardy.

PLEASE GET YOUR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL ON TIME!!!!

Early Dismissal

The First Friday of every month the children are required to wear their official uniform and will dismiss at 1:00 PM. Children not picked up 15 minutes after the dismissal will be sent to after school care and will be charged a $5.00 late fee.

Rainy Day Drop-off & Pick-up

If it is raining, arrival and dismissal will be in the church lobby.

Emergency Procedure

If for any reason the school must be closed, an announcement will be made on the local television and radio stations. All Archdiocesan schools will follow the actions of the Dade County Public School system unless otherwise notified.

 Field Trips

Teachers will take children on field trips as an integral part of the curriculum.  It will be purposeful and related to the educational program of the school.  Advance notice will be given when a field trip is planned.  Permission slips will be sent home.  These must be completed and returned to school.  To go on a field trip with the school is a privilege, not a right.  If a student’s discipline can cause a problem, or endanger his/her or anyone’s safety, s/he will not be given permission to go.

Siblings will not be allowed to attend field trips. Students going on school fieldtrips MUST go and return on the field trip bus.

Absences / Tardies

If your child is absent, a note explaining his absence, dated and signed by the parent, is required by the school office upon returning to class.  If class work and/or homework is requested, it should be done through the school office before noon. The school has attendance regulations as a means of helping children develop habits that will serve them best when they reach adulthood.  Any child who has an excess of 18 absences in a school year may be in jeopardy of retention. Only for extreme illness or emergencies should a child be allowed to remain home from school.  Students who are absent three consecutive days must present a doctor’s note stating that the child is ready to go back to school.

Sick Students

If a student is to be sent home, a parent or responsible adult designated by the parent must come and sign the child out in the office.  All students must be free of fever, vomiting or diarrhea for a full 24 hour period before returning to school.

Illness

If your child is ill and cannot attend school, please call the school office to let us know. If your child should become ill at the school, we will do all we can to make him/her comfortable. Your child's teacher will call you to come and pick up the child should that be necessary.  If we  are unable to reach the child's parents, it is important that we have the names of someone who can come and get the child.  Please be sure that your phone numbers on our records are always kept current.  The health and well being of every child is our foremost concern.  Please do not bring a child to school if he/she is sick.  A continuous cough, runny nose or fever will constitute a phone call home requesting pick up. If your child should come down with a COMMUNICABLE DISEASE such as: measles, mumps, pink eye, chicken pox, or head lice, please notify the school office immediately. You will need to bring a doctor’s note on the day your child returns to school.

 Accidents

Parents/Guardians will be notified immediately in case of sudden illness or accident.  In case of minor accidents (scratches and bruises), the school will inform the parents by sending a note home at the end of the school day.

After & Before School Care

Before school care opens 7:00 a.m. until 7:45 a.m. Children enrolled in after-school care may also use our before school care service without an additional fee. Children not enrolled in after-school care and who arrive before 7:45 am will be taken to before school care and charged a $5.00 fee. After school care begins at 2:45 PM and ends at 6:00 PM. The monthly fee is $100.00 or $120.00 depending on the number of school days. A child needing after school care who is not enrolled, will be charged a $5.00 fee. Children MUST be picked up no later than 6:00 PM. If there is an emergency and you have to pick up your child after 6:00 PM, please note that you will incur a fee of $10.00 per every 15 minutes. Children enrolled in after school activities will have to be picked up at the end of each session.

Procedures for Concerns

Throughout the year, occasional problems of misunderstandings may arise between teacher and pupil, teacher and parent, or parent and school.  We believe this is frequently the result of a lack of communication between those involved.  Our school policy in dealing with these situations is:

1.  All questions, problems or complaints regarding a classroom problem should first be  brought to the  attention of the teacher.

2.  If the situation is not resolved or clarified at this point, it would then be advisable to contact the principal.

3.  All questions, problems or complaints regarding school  issues should be brought to the attention of the principal.

4.       If matter remains unsolved, parents are encouraged to  speak to the pastor.

 Reporting Of Physical/Sexual Abuse

Parents and guardians should understand that State law requires a teacher or administrator who has reasonable suspicion that sexual or physical abuse has occurred to report this to the Division of Children and Family services.  The teacher or administrator who fails to fulfill this responsibility can be charged with sexual or physical abuse, because silence contributes to the crime.
